Petcock prime side sealing

    Petcock prime side sealing

    I removed my octy awhile ago. I used these "fuel safe" nipples to plug the prime side of the petcock. Looking at the nipples I can see that they are starting to crack. Anyone have a idea on how I can seal the prime side of the petcock permanently? What I was thinking was a brass screw and some solder?

    I just filled mine with JB Weld from the nipple side & kinda just shoved it up there & its been about a yr with no leaks. The tank was empty when I did that. - Dan

      The original formula JBWeld will work really well for that, but make sure you let it cure for the FULL 24 hours before putting gas to it. DAMHIK.

        Probably more than 24 hours of curring for me. Tank and side covers are at the the painters. Last thing I need is gas all over my new paint. LOL

          As long as you do the 24, it will probably outlast the rest of the petcock.

            I used a short piece of fuel line with a bolt stuck in the end. I sawed off the threaded part of the bolt and used the shank.

              Hi Ozz,
              that'd work, but like you say, permanent. But what if you change your mind?
              My cheap fix to seal off the prime spigot was a short length of genuine heavy-duty fuel hose with a ball bearing shoved up it.
              Plus no risk of you screaming like a girl when the molten solder drops onto your wrist.

                I've had the same caps on mine for a least 2 years.
                Make sure they are neoprene.
