    Jets??

    I was pulling my set of carbs apart today for rebuild/powdercoating and everything was fine except one of the pilot jets... had to easyout that one. So, can I get a replacement at most any Yamhonsukawa dealer, or are these hard to find?

          Oops, bummer...

          It wasn't the idle pilot jet I trashed, but the AIR pilot jet (the one that screws in at the air cleaner side). These aren't so common it seems, and to make matters worse the '78 is it's own size (210). The '79s used a 180, and as near as I can tell the newer carbs didn't even have these (at least they don't show on the parts fiche). Found the idle pilot and main jets all over, but not these.

          So, anybody have a dead '78 carb they can rob one off of....?

            Steve,

            In the 81 model carbs at least, they do have the removable pilot air jet in the inlet bell of the carb. They are in the lower left side of the bell and screw out. In the 81 model they are 185s. I went to my local yamarobbers and they ordered them for me at $3-4 each.

            All of the carbs should need that pilot air jet, the one item that changes in the inlet bell is the air vent shows up for a fourth hole in the later model carbs.

                  I believe the air jet is the same as the "small round" type mikuni main jet. Call around, a lot of shops stock these jets in small numbers. Just ask if they've got a small round type mikuni main jet size 180, then make sure it matches when you get there. Should run you around 4 bucks if prices are the same as when I got mine.

                          Eastwood 'reflective chrome'... the same stuff I reviewed. I'll try and post some pics when I get them done. I've been pretty happy with the Eastwood powders so far.
