  • Dumb o-ring question

So I went ahead and ordered the o-rings that are not included in the 'complete' gasket set (oil pump, main oilway, special nozzle) and I have a really simple stupid question that I'm sure you guys who have re-done a few motors will have the answer to. In the shop manual there is a caution to NOT use any sealer on this main oilway o-ring:

My dumb question is: since this ring is so damned important, why would one NOT want any sealer there? BTW, I did find sealer on the original.

Not an expert, but I would think it is due to the fact any sealer you apply that is XSive would go into the oil pump and or galleys and become a potential block of oil to bearings and such. JAT

An o-ring should seal itself anyway.Sealer is overkill.IMHO

        Note*

There are various compositions to orings as well as hardness... be sure to order you orings for the specific environment. Oil, fuel, (glycol coolant) movement or vibration... fuel with ethanol....

I have been working on putting together some sets of all the o-rings that are hard to find for these bikes, I will add these to the list. If anyone knows of any others let me know and I'll add them to the list.
