      Hello,
I've been following the progress of your recovery.

I do a little amateur lock smithing. A possible scenario, and I need to do it to mine, is to bring your serviceable gas tank lock/cap to a technician and see if he can reset the tumblers to the new ignition key.

Additionally, I read here that just about any Yamaha key will operate the left side cover cylinder, and I find that to not be true. I have to use the key for the gas cap to operate that cylinder. I do believe that the side cover cylinder only uses two or three tumblers in that cylinder. I guess I will look into that one someday soon too.

I found and repaired my side cover by fishing the locking "chunk" from inside the side cover locking mechanism and did an epoxy and JB weld repair back onto the side cover. It worked well as it has held up for five years to date and even passed my stress test last week when I had forgot that I had repaired it.

Good luck with your new ride!
