Stock size is a 130/90 16. A 120 is a little smaller (10 mm) and a 140 is a little larger (10mm). I know a 140/90 16 BLACKWALL Elite 3 will just squeeze in the back of a 1980 special. But the bearings need to be good, as any movement WILL cause it to rub! Other than that, any of the three sizes will work.Ray Matteis

You'll get a lower load rating and a smaller contact patch with a 120 as opposed to a 130 or 140. These are big heavy bikes, and you've only got two points of contact with the ground. Personally I want as much rubber there as possible.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
'79 XS11 Standard, Jardine 4/1, Dyna DC1-1 Coils, 145 mains, 45 pilots, plastic floats - 25.7mm, XV920 fuel valves, inline fuel filters, speed bleeders, Mikes XS pods, spade-type fuse block, fork brace, progressive fork springs/shocks, manual petcocks, 750 FD, Venture cam chain tensioner, SS brake lines

it'll wear out quicker. If the tire is a freebie or if it's the only one you can find and you gotta get out of Dodge, go for it.
If you are just saving a few bucks by buying a next-size-down tire, it ain't worth the effort.Fred Hill, S'toon
