  • Clutch cable question

    Hey Guys,

I just got a new clutch cable and put it on the bike. The first one I bought was a little too long, so I bought another one which I thought was a little too short, but after doing some messing around, I got it working, but now i'm not sure if I have it set up right. For example, when I put it in first gear, press the clutch and try to back up, it's kind of hard to back up (It still backs up, just takes a little bit of work), I don't know if that has something to do with the bike being shaft driven but as soon as I release the clutch, I can't move anywhere (so that parts working right at least). I haven't actually had the bike long enough to know if that's normal or not. Does that sound right to you?

As far as the adjustments I made, I did some messing around with the pieces in the image below:

If your trying to push the bike backwards without it running
in gear and the clutch pulled in it will be a bit harder to move,
the 'thingy' above needs to be adjusted properly, lock nut loosened
have the screw nipped up to where its lightly seated, then backed out a quarter
of a turn, then tighten the lock nut. Adjust the cable at the handle bars so theres some
slack in the cable. Start the bike and put it in gear and see how the clutch
    operates. Hope this helps.

Put the trany in natural and see if it's the same amount of resistance to move it around as it is with the bike in gear and the clutch level pulled. If it's the same things are likely OK. If it's less work in natural then the clutch might need adjustment. If so, confirm the adjustment under that cover first followed by adjustment at the level.
