Ones from autos parts stores in packages dont seems to come in the right sizes. No luck online either. Do I have to resort to buying a roll of cables and cut it to fit? If so, could somebody suggest the correct spec, if any?

I used 8g wire and crimp connectors for both sides.When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger -
Go to a welding supply and get at least #8 cable welding cable; 6 would be better. You might even be able to get them to crimp the ends on.
Welding cable is 'the stuff' as it's rated for higher current than conventional wire, is much more flexible, and has pretty good insulation on it. It's not particularly cheap though....

8 Gauge wire will do it. You can also go to one of the "stereo" shops in your area, and have them make up the two or three cables you need. They usually have the Monster cable in that gauge. For the shot bits you need, it's not a problem. I would NOT buy a lot of it for actually running a stereo, though, it's WAY too much money per foot for that!Ray Matteis

The BIG problem with the Home Depo wire is that it's for a house, NOT automotive use. It usually breaks quicker because of vibration, and the insulation isn't designed to withstand the oil/gas of automotive use. It will probably work for a few years, but not go the twenty years the proper type of wire would.Ray Matteis

your Home Depot got an automotive section? 6 gauge is fine but If you bought house wire it's liable to have fewer fatter wires making up it's core and so be less flexible than an automotive wire of the same gauge.
BTW, I used 3 foot long automotive battery cables to run from the car battery in my sidecar. They were the longest ones on the rack but they did have shorter ones that would have worked on a solo bike. My beef was they had no red wires, only black, so I had to wrap red insulating tape around the ends of the + wire to warn against a backwards hookup.Fred Hill, S'toon
