  • Springer front end or inverted forks from harley davidson

Just trying to see if anyone has ever thought of making there xs into a springer?
im thinking of converting mine to see how it looks. Anyone have any suggestions on how to start? could really use the tips.
inverted sounds good to. I am also going to try to change the normal aspiration to turbo have decided on the setup but its the layout im worried about.

The only thing you need to watch on the front end is getting the center to line up and be the correct length. IIRC, the XS tube will press out of the lower triple tree. You could then press it into your springer front end.
As far aas a turbo, I'm collecting parts to build my own system for my '78. My plan was the turbo in front of the engine and GSXR600 FI system for the intake side. I WILL have to machine a "return" for the oil, but that should be easy.

      Hi Andrew,
      don't take this personally, eh?

"Don't stop there! Stretch the forks way out, remove the front brake, install a tiny tank with a US flag painted on it, toke up a fat one and pretend you are Peter Fonda!"

BTW, have a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.

OR.... You could put a side car on it and tell everyone how stupid they are for not doing the way that you'd like it.

          Hi Joe,
nah, springers ain't the way to go for a sidecar outfit unless you are going for that 1930's look.
If you have the skills to build or the money to buy one, what you do for a sidecar rig steering upgrade is install an Earles fork.
OTOH, I got by with $40'sworth of used parts to reduce the steering trail by using Standard 'trees on my Special forks.
BTW, shame on you for calling Andrew stupid. He just has a different idea than mine about what makes a nice bike.

I beg to differ, I think a springer would be an excellent route for a sidecar. A machine gun to mount on there would be awesome as well!

BTW, I didn't call Andrew stupid. I merely suggested that HE should call everyone else stupid for not building the type of bike that he himself would build.

Although I will agree with you on one thing.
            Shame shame shame on me!

            Merry Christmas Fred,

              Hi Joe,
well, George Brough did pattern his Castle forks after the Harley-Davidson springer forks and many a Brough Superior saw use as a sidecar tug back in the day.
As indeed, did many a springer fork Harley.
And you think you joke about a sidecar MG mount? You can still get them as an option on certain Ural models.
But in these effete days not, alas, the machine gun.

                Hey Andrew,

Here are a few photos of a springer that was done by a guy in Richmond, Va., so it can be done, and looks pretty decent when you do the whole package!?

                Good Luck.

                    Thanks Bob,

I DO know what a springer front end looks like, with hinges and such, just had a nasty brain fart! 'Preciate the gentle slap back to conciousness, must have been the eggnog!

But I don't have any photos of a "Springer" on an Xs11 though!

The bike pictured has a GIRDER front end on it. Springer operates entirely different. Both are a giant step backward in motorcycle engineering.

Some would say Simon Cowell is as well, and I happen to not agree with either.
