the #1 and #3 shift forks were interchanged.
Apparently, this caused the middle fork to push sideways, and caused the shifter to bind. I couldn't believe that it actually work and not bind up the shift lever so bad that it wouldn't work. The only difference between 1 and 3 is the offset of the bosses that slide on the pivot shaft. since one side is longer than the other, in the wrong place, they would bump in to the next.
