Just a couple questions

First-- When I turn my ignition to the lock position and lock the steering head my taillight comes on! What's up with that?

Didn't notice it at first and killed my battery when I was down visiting in Texas.

Anyone ever had that problem?


Second-- What kind of paint can I use on my tank to keep it from getting messed up if I accidentally spill a little gas?

Getting tired of getting the rubbing compound out every time I do.

First question - There are actually FOUR positions to the key switch. Starts in OFF position, turn key clockwise for ON, Push key down and then turn counterclockwise you get to LOCK, if you go just a little past LOCK you get to PARK. PARK will turn on your tail light.

Second question - Take your meds so you quit shaking so much!! Or, add a good clear coat, or alot of wax. Either way, you'll need to repolish if you spill much gas at all on it. BTDT have copywrite on the T-Shirt.

OH OK! I just went and tried that. All of the writing is gone off the switch.
I still have to turn it all the way to park to get it to lock but if I just move it one click back the light goes out and it stays locked.

Are you kidding? The meds ARE what makes me shake.

Yea, I painted the tank with Dupli-color van,truck, and SUV paint from a rattle can. Plenty of clear and plenty of carnuba wax. Looks real good to start but it sure doesn't like gas.

I swear just fumes will melt it.

A 2 part clear coat will hold up to gas. I have never used it personally, but here's 2 part clear coat in a rattle can....

I use speed shine from Griots garage and apply it every time when i come home from filling it up.Factory paint job still holding up!

as has been posted, you turned the key past "lock" and onto "park" to run the battery flat overnight.
Never happens at home, right?
My single use of that feature flattened the battery on an overnight on a group ride as everyone bar me roared away to the group breakfast leaving me on a stranger's parking pad to writhe with embarrassment.
Only a 2-part paint will resist a gas spill.

Also had the gas spill problem until I bottle glazed the tank.

Did a thread on here a while ago about bottle glazing if you are interested. I used standard 2k and lacquer Thinners with a high gloss clear coat, with a lot of elbow grease. (Think I got tennis elbows from doing my tank.) Used P90 rubbing compound to complete the job.

Sucks don't it! I did a really fine job using a good brand of automotive acrylic lacquer. Man was it smooth and did it shine. Figured I would put epoxy clear over it once it cured a while but didn't get around to it. Gas and brake fluid goes through it in seconds. The Timemachine will get a new paint job using polyurethane next year - guess I needed the practice, and a thump on the back of my head for not taking paintmans advice to start with!
