  • Mysteries of Mikuni CV carbs revealed

So have you ever wondered exactly where the gas and air go after they enter your carbs? Steppenwolf recently posted a link on the SWOXS social group page that contained a bunch of Suzuki manuals. One of them was for Mikuni BS 32 carbs, and even though ours are BS 34's, much of the information is relevant. I was fascinated by the cross sectional diagrams that show exactly how the fuel and air flow inside our carbs. Check it out - Mikuni BS32SS
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I think the best part is where they show how to properly set the float height.

I had to set my brass floats on my 79 carbs at 27.5 to keep them from running INCREDIBLY rich. It seems the way instructed here would make them adjusted WAY higher with the spring loaded float valve needles.

        FLOAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
@ TO check the float height, invert the carburetor
body. With the float arm kept free, measure the
height @ while float arm is just in contact with
needle valve by using the caliper. Bend the
tongue O as necessary to bring the height @ to
        this value.
        NOTE:
Be sure to remove the gasket before meas-
        Float height @
        -
The value of float adjustment being 22.4mm

That's why my scoot doesn't run right, I didn't use a torque wrench on the bowl screws...

Darn! I didn't either, but apparently the PO used pliers on them. I can't really say I blame him/her, I did the same on my 400, but then I recently got replacement ones and now I use ONLY the proper size wrench (I carry it in the saddlebags along with the other likely to be needed on the side of the road tools (socket and ratchet for removing the seat etc.)
