So the only thing standing between me and a neuclear powered vehicle is the weight of the radiation shielding? Wow. That is seriously an interesting thought, making a true zero emissions vehicle ultimately possible.

I have long thought that some sort of thermocouple to convert the heat directly to electricity to charge a battery which powers an electric motor would be more feasible than steam on a vehicle.

So how much plutonium would it take to make a 100 HP engine, in theory?

All you need is to invent an anti-gravity device to deflect the radiation toward an alternate GP, thereby keeping you gamma free!

        One little problem,

If the device were strong enough to deflect radiation that much it would shove everything (sun, moon, earth, and universe) away from you. Or it might cause a titantic explosion? The jury is out on that one.

I figure a semi reflective surface on a transparent medium like diamond which would intensify the radiation, and focus it in a coherent beam on the thermocouple which would generate DC electricity. Kinda like they use ruby for a laser. Not sure if Diamond would withstand the millions of degrees kelvin though. It may have to be a negative matter medium withan event horzon for reflectivity, The problem there being the creation of another singularity and the possibility of creating another universe within the confines of the current one which could cause an aesymptotic paradox of energy, causing the current reality to become ethereal.

Small price to pay for eliminating our dependance on fossil fuels though, don't you think?

            Hi Ivan,
it's close, even with today's technology. Burning Hydrogen instead of gasoline in an engine means the exhaust is pure steam which will help the world's water shortage.
But burning a pound of anything sucks the oxygen out of 16 lbs of air so even a Hydrogen burner isn't a true zero emissions vehicle unless you can put back the oxygen into the air.
It's even closer with a 2-stage approach. A big enough network of nuclear reactors to produce more electricity than can be used for power. Thing about current-technology reactors is they hate to load follow. Set 'em to crank out a steady load between shutdowns and they are happy. Try to rev them up and down to meet a varying power demand and they get quite cranky.
So run them steady, tap off whatever the grid needs and use the rest to split water (don't have to be clean water neither) into Hydrogen and Oxygen. Compress or liquify the Hydrogen for fuel and whiffle the Oxygen back into the air for Kyoto brownie points.

To bring this discussion back down to Earth.

If you had something like a nuclear powered bike, riding around with that much radiation between your legs you would most definitly save a few bucks on a vasectomy. That would be ok but ALL your hair and teeth would fall out also.

It would be REAL tough to get a date. Even with cash.

If we are going to create an alternative universe and reality, let's make it one in which Jessica Alba has the hots for me.
The glorious rays of the rising sun exist only to create shadows in which doom may hide.

                  Hi Patrick,
so, we move this string from Science-Fiction into pure fantasy, eh?
Segueing into the old joke about you and your buddies all getting killed and the devil chains each one of them to a hideous old harridan saying "You were a wicked man and this is the eternal punishment." Then the devil chains you to Jessica Alba saying "Jessica, you were a wicked woman - - - "

OK, did a brief read through on everything. Let me see if I got it all.....

I take my 95HP and divide it to get my 70Kw, then add plutonium, hidden away from the sun, moon, stars and universe, mount all of that on top of a anti-gravity force field of sorts, which will include the jury. All of that will give me 100HP, which will be able to make my bike run for 10 000 years.

Now out of all that, i just have one question.......

Will that fit in my headlight bowl?

Here is a screenshot of the program I referred to in my earlier post. Versaverter. Freeware. Been using this and earlier versions for years.

You won't need a headlight cause your eyes will emit an eerie green glow.

And possibly a low pitched hummmm and some anti-gravity effects if your listening to your AAA powered CD walkman and talking on your cell phone while drinking a Pepsi. But only if you have an ace up your sleeve and a dime in your pocket.

That only works if the walkman is playing super cool techno music.

Since you guys brought it up.I thought by the year 2000 we were suposed to have fusion powered flying cars, eat meals in pill form and be ruled by apes.Anyone know why this never happened?I hoping Winterhawk can help me out here!

Well......We've got hydrogen powered and hybrid cars but they stiil don't fly, meals are still not in pill form but we do have Ensure.

As far as the apes------ we've always got Ivan.
