Had a look at several websites and a few Dyno charts done on XS's.

Any one have an idea of what they should be? Last one I saw was on youtube on a '80 XS pushing 109HP.

I want to take mine in for a dyno, but dont have some guideline to work on.

Before anyone says it.... go read the threads..........

After I posted this, found the thread stating 95HP, did a quick search on it, and got it down to 63,4KW

    Sorry

      Hi Athedra,
if you need the conversion factor, 746 Watts = 1 BHP.
and while that 109HP may be coming out of the engine be happy to see 85HP getting to the back wheel which is where a dyno usually measures it.

        Hi Athedra,
you gotta throw your conversion chart away.
1 HP = 0.746 KW is what they beat into me at school and I doubt it's changed since.
        Thus 95HP = 95/0.746 = 127.35KW.
HTF you got half of that I dunno.

I hate to burst your bubble.. you multiply to get that conversion..... 95*0.746 = 70.87
I think some one taught you wrong on conversions.

Fred, you need to let the tubes warm up on that old calculator a bit longer I think. It's tough to multiply a number by 0.*** and come up with a larger whole number than the original. lol.

            The conversion I have is 95 x 0.7456999 = 70.84...KW.

I didn't take a whole lot of math in school though... so check my numbers.

            Tod

P.S. And everybody in this dang place apparently types faster than me! lol. But at the 85hp that is going to be more reasonable I think.. he is pretty close at 63.3KW.

Hi Rettic and everyone else who posted to say I needed arithmetic lessons,
              yes, you are right.
If 0.746KW = 1HP then KWs are BIGGER then HPs so I should have MULTIPLIED by the conversion factor.
              Thus 95HP = 70.87KW.
But where Athedra got 95HP equaling 63.4KW I just dunno.
I fritzed up basic arithmetic but his conversion chart is just plain wrong.
Nevertheless I will go eat filth and die.

                No offense intended

I am just a mathematical nut that is all. I don't like miscalculations and maybe a bit harsh about how I address those who do it incorrectly.

Here is a very good program for conversions such as this, or just about any other measurement conversion you can think of. Versaverter, freeware download.

I highly recommend this tool for everyone's desktop.

Hi Tod and thanks for the kind words.
What's really scary is that I used to design nuclear reactor control systems.

So, Fred, how many rads would it take to generate an equivalent amount of steam turbine power to make 95 HP at the shaft? Would it be possible to scale it down tot he point I can have my dream scoot that I only have to replace the reactor core every 10,000 years?

                          This could be FUN!

I used to love to convert figures to the least usable unit when I was taking college classes. I think my greatest one was expressing an angstrom size measurement in light-years, but the standard deviation went a bit awry...

                              Hi Ivan,
you think that you jest but back in the 1970s the Russians built at least one nuclear power plant that was light enough to put into orbit. We had chunks of it in our hot cells after it fell out of the sky and hard-landed in northern Canada.
So, in theory, yes. But either the shielding would make the bike weigh some several tons or leaving it off would kill you.
                              And Patrick,
my designs were brilliant plus I had Engineers to check my arithmetic.
As to Chernobyl, those Russian reactors did have poor emergency shut down systems but the catastrophic failure was caused by operators bypassing several safety interlocks in order to run a safety test while the reactor was still running. Same "more frightened of the bosses than of the reactor" mindset that melted 3-mile island.
