  • Clogged starter jet

Cleaning carbs and having a bugger of a time trying to clean out the holes in the float bowl.

Studying the tips and threads I believe its called the starter jet and leads to the choke circuit.
Its just one of them that I cannot get clear.
    Anyone have a similar experience?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

Yep, they can be tough sometimes to clear. PB Blaster, a guitar string, and a little patience is what I use to get the passage clear, then spray some carb cleaner thru.

I agree with Phil. I've had to let them soak for several days poking at the passage with the guitar string a several times every day. Be patient and persistent, eventually it will clear up for you.

Guitar String and a good air pressure clears it right up. Once the air goes thru, just pump some high pressure air and carb cleaner thru it. Clears out nicely.

              Rickrod3,
If you can lay your hands on a sonic cleaner, do so. I went through the first carb on my SF and was sure I did a good job. Put the parts in the cleaner and turn it on. Solution looked like I tossed in a charcoal briquet. The ammount of crud that was still in there after all the Gumout, soaking and scrubbing was shocking. I have cleaned plenty of auto carbs and thought they were clean too but at that point I wasn't so sure. From now on that is going to be the "last step" when I am cleaning carbs.

I used a mix of Dawn dish soap and Simple Green for the cleaner solution.

Only one word of caution - be sure to wear some eye protection when you do this. Once if finally breaks through, it will spray an amazing distance!
