  • XJ1100 carbs

Do XJ1100 carbs bolt on in place of XS1100 carbs, or is there a diameter or spacing difference?

  • #2
Same spacing, they'll fit. The XJ carbs have no choke lever, but it can be swapped IIRC from the XS bank.

Yep... the main differences are the way the choke is... XJ's used a cable controlled choke lever from the left handlebar. Only other differences are mainly in the jetting internally.... a lot smaller thanks to those lousy emiisions laws they had back then...

I'm thinking the throttle hooks up the same... cable in the center.

If one was to put them on an XS w/o doing any rejetting... they may not like the way it ran, though.

Depends what year XS he has (would be nice if it were in the signature...hint..hint...hint..hint!!) For the 81 model year I think the jetting is the same as XJ...110 mains across the board and IIRC they all used 42.5 pilot jets stock.

XJ carbs, 47.5 pilot is stock. The float level is supposed to be measured with the tube level method also.

81's had 42.5's and 110's as stated. The others will chime in with more technical info, but if the shoe fits, steal it. just be wary of running lean. Tootsie will get a little hot!!! NFG!!!

Yup.. the XJ uses 47.5 pilots and 112.5 mains, but I ran a set from an XS once that had the 110 mains to see if the problem I was having was carb or electrical. I never felt any difference between the two sets.

As also stated, you need to swap the rod on the front of the carbs that operates the enrichener (Choke) circuit. The rods are different lengths. Be carefull when disassembling this rod. It's a good idea to do the process in a big box if possible, but not needed if carefull. There are some spring loaded tiny steel balls that can shoot off into the 4th dimension. These are what makes the rod click into the different settings on the XS.
