Has anyone adapted an XS750 (77-78) double seat for the XS1100 (1980)? I have found a nice custom XS750 seat and wanted to know if it is possible - or should I just forget it - I understand I will likely have to move the mounting brackets, just want to know how hard it is and what is involved.

    John in San Antonio

    Thanks in advance....

instead of moving, add some flat bar with slotted holes from the original mountings to the new. That way you dont damage the frame, and can always go back original when you want or have to.

I have not made a close comparison of the differences of the two seats. Is it possible that you could just strip the cover and padding from the 750 seat and then refit/reshape it to an 1100 seat pan? Just a thought.

          not likely...

this is a custom hydrogel seat with an integrated backrest - I would be afraid that changing the pan would ruin the seat. I will think about using the flat bar stock - it is about $300 seat so I am a little leery of buying it without knowing someone has successfully made the conversion - but it sounds very comfy!

Hear what you are saying. Someone recently purchased a Corbin seat for $149 on e-bay. Have a look at what is available there before you go the other route. I liked the image I saw of the Corbin so much that I took it to a local upholsterer to see if he can make my stock seat similar. Maybe the Corbin grabs your attention too.

              looks like a corbin...

but has the integrated backrest that switches for driver or passenger as needed - that plus the hydrogel - I am not opposed to spending the $300 to fix 2 problems (backrest for pass + long ride comfort) but hate to wind up trying to resell it to a triple owner if it wont work - I don't see why I cant make it work - the 2 frames can't be THAT different!

                  Hi John,
                  it ain't a drop-on, that's for sure.
The XS750 seat has hinges on the right side and a latch on the left.
The XS11 seat has a tongue at the front and bolt-downs on each side.
Building on Athedra's suggestion; modify the XS750 seat like this:-
Unbolt and carefully save the hinges and the latch.
Make a new tongue patterned from the XS11 tongue and rob the hold-downs off the XS11 seat.
Install nutserts in the XS750 seat base spaced to bolt on the tongue and the hold-downs in the correct locations.
If you did it right the XS750 seat should now attach properly.
As the nutserts install almost flush you can leave them in place if the XS750 seat needs to go back on an XS750 at some future date.

OK - I bought it - now you will find out...

if I can make it work.

Pics if it does - tears if it doesn't

At least SWMBO likes the idea of a comfy seat!

Nice seat. let us know if you get it working.

Thanks for not welding or grinding your original frame. Will thank me for it someday.
