Most I've done is 136 on the old Honda VF1100S (V65 Sabre). Exciting to
say the least. Only had the XS up to just over 100, of course, the wife was on the back!! I could finally breath after a couple of miles. The bruises took longer
of course...John

150 mph has been my top speed barrier for about 5 years now which I've matched using my TLR not to long ago, just not enough room in DFW to open it up.1980 XS1100G

I was going about 115 mph when I started to hear that little voice, so I decided that was enough, then a kind officer tagged me at about 107. Wish that little voice spoke up a little sooner (even my conscious has punctual issues ). After a nice little conversation, the officer let me off with failure to follow a traffic control device… Got lucky that day in more ways than one, I guess. Next time I will pick a better place and time for that stuff.
This past summer I spent about 90% of my riding time with an older friend (he's about mid 40's) who rides a dual sport. Most times we cruse at 65-70 around the back roads (55 zone). His bike is only good for about 90 mph, but with the stage 3 kit and aftermarket stuff he has it get there fairly quick, obviously no match for the XS though. Every time I would pass him, later he would say; “Damn that thing sounds so good. I think I might have to get one.” This was my first real summer having my own bike and I had a blast. Learned a lot, and I’m looking forward to doing some work on it this winter and riding more next year. Sorry for the tangent!'79 XS11 F

Thanks,
I was lucky in that there was almost no traffic on a major highway and I had always used a helmet. Have extremely fast reflexes and brain that becomes analytical in high speed when oops happens. Can't really explain it any other way than the time for panic is when it is all over.
Had just topped out at about 120 going down a long slope on a really HOT 380 Suzuki. I do remember one thing in particular. The saving thought was that the only way to survive was to go fetal with a hit and roll.
When the world stopped spinning I limped over to the bike and kicked the rear tire to see if my guess was right (the drum brakes were dragging -leading to "premature" fragmentation-which caused the out of control shimmy turning into somersaults within 1 or 2 seconds).
I knew it was going down a split second before so when I cleared the bike my general idea was to impart as much motion as possible toward getting off the roadway. It worked as I ended up on the shoulder with 1 broken collar bone, 2 dislocated shoulders, plenty of road rash and a helmet that was ground down into the styrofoam inner pad in a couple places. Bike was in pieces and the engine was still running.
Another thing; if it had been the front wheel I would not have been as fortunate. Wear the gear!'81 1100 MNS - "Midnight XSpress"

Obtw
Getting up there and back down is not a real issue. It does seems like I am attempting suicide by chin strap if I try to maintain 80+MPH for any length of time. 70 to 75 is livable but on a nude 1100 the wind beats you to pieces at higher speeds. May have to get a sport shield.'81 1100 MNS - "Midnight XSpress"

The fastest I've gone on my E without the touring stuff was 143 according to the speedometer (slight downhill and tailwind).
I've had the LG to 135 on the speedometer.
I don't have a need to go over 100 MPH anymore...... but I will if I have to.Pat Kelly
