I know I have been in the mid 120's on the XJ and Midnight. Ran out of road before I ran out of power. I was still accelerating but not real fast. Had the FJ up to 135 before I backed down. It was still climbing fast too. One of these days I will get the balls to open it up and see what it will really do.

      110

That was fast enough for me with a 30 year old bike as well , and where I live there is just to much traffic , but every one goes 75-80 mph

Redline, or as close as the bike can get to it, in high gear.

Usually, at this point, I am not paying much attention to the speedo.

Around 215kph on my Shadow, maybe 190-200kph on the XS, as mine won't go any faster.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

I've hit around 125 on the XS... on my FJ... about 147... but I had to slow down... not because I'd reached "fast enough" but because circumstances didn't allow me to go any faster...

Never found "Fast enough" yet... until a curve comes up. These bikes don't have one of those for me.

I was going to say if you lay one down at 110 MPH like I did it will slow you down. Not true, soon as you get over the shakes you will plug it back in. Had mine up to 115 on a 160 speedo just 3rd time out. We will never learn, just ask Tod.

I don't do it often, but I had Betsy somewhere over 130 a couple weeks ago and she still had plenty left. Couldn't say exactly how fast as cars were present and I could only sneak looks at the speedo - the needle was somewhere to the right of the 130 mark. I love that 750 FD - makes a huge difference on the top end. The guy riding the Harley (who was trying to show me how fast his over-priced twin thumper was) didn't seem to like it though .
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

                    Wow, John...
Glad you're still with us to tell the tale...

All I can say is, going down @ 55mph 20 years back was bad enough...
The whole time I was down I remember praying "God, please don't let me get run over by a truck..." and the relief I felt when I felt myself slowing down and switching from asphalt to dirt on the shoulder of the road! But shortly thereafter came the pain of it all... man, roadrash sucks!

John, you are either one lucky Dude that you didn't impact w/ something @ that speed, or else there's a divine purpose for you !

Either way, glad you're still here!

                    Down @ 110.... every biker's nightmare...

With the 750 final drive, I have the same top speed in both 4th and 5th gear. The only thing that changes is the RPM. It just runs out of oomph to push any more wind out of the way.

So far, the fastest ive had an XS1100 was about 110 mph. This was clocked by a county officer. not on duty happens to be a relative. My '93 Vmax was THE fastest i have EVER been on a bike. That bike, with the mods ( 1198 motor replaced with a 1500 cc racing motor, flat slides, and many others) would put 165 ponies at the rear tire...had it up to 156 mph. Scared the sh!t out of me. But man, what a rush..... I agree with Pat.... i still like to have the ability, but dont excersize it!!! My 4 kids need me!!!!
