          Austin,

I bought mine for my XJ from Yamaha...

Pricier, sure... but time is also $.

          Gave $125

I also checked out 4 other sources... and they were all the same price.

Mr. Ozz had posted he scored one for $80, but that was a lucky deal...

Have you checked out the Yama dealer yet? Should be able to get one for a '79...

Ebay deal's about the only other way I know to get a deal... every once in a while somebody posts one for sale here.

Hope you score one... I'm glad I put one in. Runs a lot better, starts a lot better, and gets better MPG's.

          Good luck

'79 F "Time Machine"... oh yeah, Baby.... (Sold back to Maximan)

I remember these kits back in 1986 when i bought my SG.I asked my mechanic at the time- Dan M from Horizon Yamaha in Budd Lake NJ if he would install it.He did and the change with the Kerker exhaust and pods really woke the bike up.I purchased the kit from Star Cycle in CA.I know it was aDynojet kit but would hesitate to by an off name brand.

There was a Dynojet kit for the 79 and I sold mine on eBay for a disappointing $48 last month.

If you don't know who made the jets, don't walk but run your a$$ off away from anyone offering you a jet kit.

Sorry about the bad data I was on the dyno jet website and they had nothing listed for 78-79.

Maybe swap someone your early carbs for their late carbs, and get a DJ kit.

I think the early carbs were a bit hotter any way werent they? Plus they have adjustable needles, so the tunability is there already.

I think the only thing you'd really need from a DJ kit is the needles, you could get Jets from about any MC parts place. Then just enlarge the slide holes a bit. I think its a #39 (.0995) drill used on the late DJ kit.

                    Just some rambling thoughts...

That's it, Ivan... you nailed it.

Early carbs already have adjustable needles...

That, coupled w/ new jets that aren't egged out, is the whole purpose for a DJ kit anyway...

That's why you aren't seeing the listing...

Good call, Ivan. I forgot about that.

                            Dynojet vs. New needles/jets

That brings up a question I've been asking myself for a while:

Is it worth the $130 for the dynojet ket, instead of just getting new needles and emulsion tubes? I already have new, 1 year old jets (mains, pilots, and mixture screws) all the way across. If I just get new tubes and needles from MikesXS, it's about $78. Would I benefit much from the Dynojet kit as opposed to the new stock tubes and needles?

Another thing I've wondered about is the pilot block off piece. Why would you use one? What is its function? Does it make it so you can just tune using the main jets only or what? Please someone enlighten me.
