What exhaust options do I have

I have been looking around for a new exhaust system. I like the look of a 4-2 but I'm open to using a 4-1. The only system I have found is a mac and from what I heard around here is that they arent the best. Is there other options for sale anymore.Or does anyone run the mac and like it?I need a little help.
A nice used system would be cool too if you know where one is

I made a Supertrapp universal can (18.5" long IIRC) fit on a Mac 4-1 header. For now I'm using a piece of flex pipe to make the bend. One day I'll take it off and have a muffler shop make a custom pipe for it. The tunability of the Supertrapp is awesome. There is a Jardine 4-2 on ebay now, fair shape. The Mac cans don't sound too good IMHO.

From what I've heard, the big problem w/ the Macs were the single walled tubing... blueing.

Jardines were a lot nicer / better... but they've ceased production, so unless you stumble upon someone selling some...

The spaghetti's are cool looking, but the trick is connections, and to the best mufflers.

Some of the exhausts you had to watch out about clearance, and oil filter access.

A lot of times, some folks have had to rejet if they go 4 to 1, only to find they lost hp, or the powerband has moved to a different rpm.

I had a friend who sprung $700 for a rare, exotic system and had it shipped from 1/2 way round the globe... spent weeks fitting it, put it on the dyno... only to find he LOST power. Some systems ya gotta watch out for that... who wants to spend the big $$ and go through all that, to go backwards?
It looked pretty cool, though...

Also... Phil's right about the Supertrapps being way cool! Good for HP & tunability. They sound good, too.

The stock pipes on the MNS are "black chrome".
If you have the originals and the insides are still in good shape then they can be refurbished to look like new.

If yours are FUBARed then a set of chrome specials can be made to look like a MNS exhaust.

These pipes are on a SF. They had some dents, scratches and rust. Headers were pitted bad at the top bend. I could not get the chrome to look good enough so this happened

i know where a stock set off of an '80 standard are. Shipping would be a tad expensive, but not terrible.

they are chrome that have been painted with hi-temp paint. the PO didnt do a very good job, but the overall condition is above average. no major issues.

Hi XJ,
blueing is not a "big problem", it's the way pipes aught to be.
Think of the blueing on single wall pipes as a zero cost one shot carb tune indicator.
Purple to blue to dark straw to light straw with the light straw fading out half-way down the first leg shows the carbs are set right.

Hey guys thanks for the info. I guess I'll keep an eye out for a good used system. What I have on the bike now is the stock headpipes with universal shorty mufflers welded on. I've thaught about putting on other mufflers that go back further so the noise is not right in my ears but the headpipes are rough. If I cant find a nice used system I'll put the MAC on my christmas list

I bought this Mac 4-2 used on ebay for $185 including shipping





I didn't like the way the mufflers that came with it sounded so I built these from a couple of Cherry Bomb s/s automotive exhaust tips and a couple of 7/8spiral baffles I had laying around.




A little louder than I was aiming for but they sound BAAAAD. Like the hounds of hell when I get on it.

If you can find a set of the Jardine 4/2 "spahgetti pipes" in good shape, pay the price and pick them up, you will not be disapointed!!! When I put them on the Fire Dragon I never had to rejet, the power band moved a little but increased in size and the low speed rumble to the high speed snarl has to be heard to be believed!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't heard back from them yet, whether they
are in stock or not. Discounted to 381.00 + 25 shipping.
We'll see. Got to sound better than the Mac 4-2
from the PO. Can't stand those things.
