Choke wont stay in the out position

I took the carbs completely apart and cleaned them. Reassembled them and put them on the bike. Went to start it up and noticed that the choke bar no longer stays in the out position.

Any thoughts on why this is?

I don't think I left anything off. It wont run without the choke out and holding it out by hand is probably not going to work over the long term. Still need to sync the carbs, but will have to fix this issue first.

Sounds like you lost the springs and tiny ball bearings that hit the notches to hold it out. The ball bearings are only about 1/8" in diameter, and they will really fly if you're not careful when pulling the bar out.

I have the bearings in, But no springs... I found one one the work bench, should there be two?

Yup. One should hold it though. You might be able to find a suitable substitute at a hardware store, or they can be ordered from Bikebandit. BB wants about $5 for the spring, so the HW store might be a more economical solution.

Ive been running mine without any balls/spring
in the choke, just means you need to hold it open
for a short time.

I just had the choke bar and assembly removed on the set for my project bike. When I looked at the bar, I noticed that the only place it has notches for the ball to sit in and hold the choke in position is at no 1 carb. So it seems the one at number foru carb is just there for a feel good or to store an extra in case you loose the one at no 1 position.

Yep, it won't do didly for you if you do not have the spring, it is a small one to.

Also, make sure the rod is lined up properly. It must be oriented properly to catch the balls

I recently took mine apart and "lost" one of the balls. The other one was jammed down in the hole. I fished that one out, but really wanted to make sure they were all there. I figured out that I had a few extra balls in my RC car parts bin, left over from a differential gear. They work great! The funny part is that right after I found a replacement, I found the original ball too. The springs, I don't know about, since they are rather tiny. I have never seen such a tiny spring in any store...
