  • Some advice please

driving down the road bike starts to lose power then backfire through the exhaust sometimes picks back up and goes other times just dies and then takes about 15 min. or so before it will fire again.

What does it sound like when it finally fires again? Is this a recurring problem or did it just happen once? Does the bike run now? How long will it run before this happens? Does it always go the same distance (more or less) before it quits?

    Details, please.

it has happened twice and it is a loud bang out of the exhaust once at a short distance and the other time after about 6 miles when it starts again sounds fine put a after market air filter in it. it is cold where i live right now.

I think lean usually means backfire though the carbs. Do you have inline fuel filters? Could be slowing the fuel to the carbs, slowly starving the engine.
Might be way off on this.
          Kinked fuel lines?

no inline filters looked at lines seem fine no kinks and all four pipes are hot

Won't be the pickup coils but the wires at the coils. It's an easy fix. check out the tech help links on the main forum page.

Double check the fuel tank vent.
Intermittant fuel supply can do this also.
I was gonna say pickup-ups too, but wrong bike.

Could the aftermarket air filter plugging the holes in the carb cause this?
