Now to my question


You know those pesky little ball bearings that live between the choke rod and that tiny little spring? Well...when I took the rod out, one ball was there and the other wasn't. PO strikes again


So I'll be spending some time trying to source a replacement Does anybody have any solutions The diameter is 1/8th inch, or about 3mm. I think that's smaller than a BB, but seems like I've seen buck shot about that size

I'll check back tomorrow to see if anybody has solved this one before. I'd search the posts, but what would I search...small ball choke thingy I'm also assuming it's not something I can order

Or a local supplier of ball bearings. Sounds like a common size to me. I bought a bunch of 1/4 ball bearings for the steering head in another of my bikes, whose manufacturer will remain unnamed. Got two dozen of them for a buck. The bearing supplier here in Austin sells 'em.

I have found this ball size in some low-budget drawer slides I used on a project a while back.

IIRC, although there is a place for two of these on the choke rod, I thik you only really need one.

McMaster has em $1.98 for a pack of 500. We could start a carb choke rod ball library!

My choke rod only had one ball (both springs though) until this last weekend. It really only needs one. I just happened to open up my parts box from my RC car racing days, and happened to have a whole pile of 'em, so I dropped one in the empty hole.

Be sure to grease that rod when you put it back in. That will help it slide more easily.

I have a 78E model with only one ball. As the rpms start to increase, it automatically self adjusts to the lower choke position. :-) Like an automatic choke!

Ive been running mine without any balls,
just means having to hold it open by hand for a minute
or so.

Found them at Ace Hardware for 31 cents each
