    Wives and Birthdays

Well, it wasn't a surprise, but for my 60th birthday (two years ago) my loving and lovely wife said "you can have anything you want", so after more than 20 years without a motorcycle I found this Classic Yamaha:

The selection criteria was a simple, easy to maintain, motorcycle that I could load and unload from my van without help. The SR500 fit that bill perfectly, but it started me back into the life of the joy of riding.

In the two years that have gone by since then I've bought two more SR500s, and bartered my tree work for this nice '81 XS1100LH "Midnight Special":

Even though Debi is a "tree lover", she and her Father helped me take down the magnificent old Oak that I traded for the 1100.

My 50th birthday "present" was hard to top:

But I have to admit I think I have enjoyed my return to riding bikes more than my return to flying (after a 10 year absence). Debi is a great and understanding wife, low maintenance too, all she wanted for her birthday (48th) was a lobster dinner, of course she got it:

So for the younger members of this forum, growing old is just a chance to re-live your youth, but doing it better next time around.

1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special - induction and head work, bored w/ Wisco pistons, SuperTrapp 4 into 1 stainless exhaust. This bike was built by someone who knew what to do - it flys

    1978 SR500E - pristine stocker

1978 SR500E - soon to get cafe style makeover

I love that SR500, have always wanted to build a nice tight little cafe thumper with one. Like say, this one:
