  • Indicators, LED bulbs

I just changed my bulbs to LED, changed the relay to an LED relay and all works fine until I start the bike. Then it is like a disco(showing old age ,lol) with the blinkers going ten to the dozen, fast and slow. Turn the bike off and all is well. When I looked at the wiring plug to the relay it is 3 wires and the PO had a 2 wire relay. I can't get a 3 wire relay to work at all and can't find any self cancelling relay, in it's place is an ignition relay. Also the wiring diagrams in my Clymers and the one I downloaded from CatotonicBug seem to be different to our Aussie bikes. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

if you use your stock flasher and install a set of load resisters they will work http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
careful what you wish for.........you might get it

      Hey MXMikie,

That TOTALLY defeats the purpose of going to LEDS on these machines. The charging system puts out very little extra power, and using LEDS helps to cut down on the current draw by several amps, but using load resistors just puts the draw back in the system.

      Hey Ozlad,

You say you put on an LED Relay?? DO you mean an Electronic Flasher Relay specifically designed for use on systems with LED lights...or what?? Does it say Electronic on it??

We don't have access to the wiring diagram for your specific machine!

However, LED's require very little power to work, and IF there is any current bleeding into the system/turn signal circuit, it can cause havoc! Also, do you have 1 turn signal INDICATOR on your dash, or 2 for left and right??

IF 1, then you are getting current bleed thru via the Indicator light, and you need to put on a couple of DIODES in line from the left and right turn circuits as they go to the Indicator light, so that the current will only go to the dash light, and not down the wire to the other side/set of turn signals!

Hi TC It is a LED flasher unit, for use with LED Bulbs. I did try an electronic flasher but it was really slow on the dash it is the same as your special's, 2 lights for left and right... somebody did mention awhile ago, think it might have been Steptoe, that the wiring is the same as a XS1100 Sport (5K7) if my memeory is correct but I can't find where to download it from. I am going to trouble shoot a lot more tomorrow, hope fully it will be something simple..... only havoc is caused on what ever side is 'spose to be flashing.... no bleed to other side and only when bike is running

            Glad you fixed it.

The colour wiring diagram is HERE. And you're correct, the 5K7 Sport model is the same as your 5N5 model so the wiring is the same.
