For me it is about 110 miles on my SH. Guess my right wrist may be twitchier than Phils. I will vouch that the wrist plays a big role in how many miles till the tank goes dry.

Mine either quit working or the bulb is burned out.
Engine started to sputter a bit at 128 and I switched to R.
I ended up running off 148 miles on one Special tank! I think it took 3.8 to fill it up.

Mine came on for the first time I ran it low @ 110mi and stayed on after the re-fill. Gonna pull it today as I'm almost out of fuel again.

                D'oh!

Mine comes on after about 30 seconds of running no matter how much fuel is in the tank.

                I know. I know!

It's on the "to do" list...

The SH will let me know (red eye of impending doom) its time to get gas at about 110. My numb butt will let me know its time to get off at about 90. It works out pretty good

OK so i went 65 miles and light would come on when i was slightly turning and go off when the bike was straight.Went to gas station and filled up tank and it took 3 gallons to fill. What does this indicate? Is my mileage really that bad?I didn't even get to put the bike on reserve before light somewhat flickered on.

Well, yes, your milage is that bad. If you used 3 gallons in 65 miles, either your tripometer is off and you went further or milage was that.

I was on a trip with a fellow XS member when we found he ran out of a full tank on a special in about 55 miles. He was having coil issues and had closed his plug gaps up to account for weak coils. He corrected the plug gap and got much better milage.

I would think that 21 MPG is REALLY low. 30 MPG is typical if you twist the throttle pretty far most of the time. So I would think you might have noted if you went more like 90 miles and only indicated 60. JMHO. I was running right next to the other bike that got 56 miles out of a tank and I could never have guessed it was running that badly.
