Carbs Adjustment Tool

Alright, I added a 1/2 tsp of gas to the #1 cylinder through the spark plug hole and varoom, it started up. It's Alive! muh haa haa!

Then I attached my makeshift carb sync tool (Pix later) to the ports on the carb boots.
Qeustions 1: I cannot keep the engine running without holding the throttle, how do I fix that or what causes it to die without the throttle pulled? Is it just adjusting the throttle knob under carbs or could it be more?

Question 2: I can sync the carbs at 1000rpm but they are then out of sync at 3000 rpm. Is that supposed to happen or is there another issue I should be dealing with.

Question 3: When is someone going to move to Southeast NM so we can get together and fix my bike?

1: Turn up the idle screw between the carbs and you can keep it running.
2: Don't worry about the synch running out at 3k, its normal.

Silent, You should reconsider. Carlsbad may be small, dusty and remote, but it's hot and um. well. We do have the Carlsbad Caverns.

OK, I adjusted the idle (a little too high at first) and took the bike out for a spin. At first it was very sluggish and died within a half mile. After a minute, I got is running again (no adjustments, just the starter and throttle) it seemed less sluggish so I took it out a little further. About three miles out it started sputtering and dies again. This time I had to let it set a while before it would restart. Brought it home and here I am. Any thoughts on the dying and sluggishness?

By the way, that bug avatar is creepy. I keep wanting to swat my screen.

Sounds to me like you need a good cleaning of the carbs. Maybe run some SeaFoam with the gas to help clean out those itty bitty passages.

Check your plug color. White: not enough fuel. Black: too rich. Are you running the octy? If so, try running on prime. Make sure no fuel lines are kinked.

Ok, they are a dark brown. I am guessing it is too rich. How do I fix it?

Carbs are probably dirty as stated before. Try the Seafoam first. What's the condition of your air filter?

Brand spankin new K&N air filter. So I need to fill the tank, add seafoam and ride it a bit?

Half a can of Seafoam to a half a tank of fresh gas should be good. Ride it a few miles and let it sit overnight, then see if it's any better.
