Crash Bar Question

Hey ya'll. Been looking out here for a while to get a set of these critters for my XJ1100. Didn't see any so I bought the set off Ebay last week. The ones for the XJ750 see link below for pics. Anywho - they don't look like the other 2 OR 3 point ones I see here.

please do NOT follow the PO's example when attaching the crashbar to your own bike. It's only safe to weld onto a bike frame if you are a qualified professional welder, know exactly what grade of steel the frame is made of and have the correct rods. And then it's still dodgy. Dream up some clamps instead.

Thanks, I wasn't planning on welding a couple of ears. I really want to use the mounts that are there. I'll get there after arm heals, but many thanks again. Once more I LOVE THIS SITE !!!

Question for you all. Has anyone tried vstar classic engine guards on an XS? DO they fit, are they worth anything, do they look good, is it an abomination to even mention the idea?



Just asking, it doesn't seem like the little guards would help protect the tank or my legs if I couldn't get out from underneath in time?

I have also seen rear guards on a few bikes, right in front of the saddle bags. Anyone seen those?

Just my personal opinion.. but I think they'd look rediculous.. not to mention even weaker than the smaller ones that fold up.

rider magazine did a deal on the 3 point crash bar in 1978 they found that when you did crash over 40 mph with the 3 point crash bar that not only did they fold in and crack the case they also made the bike slide 20 feet further than the 2 point crash bars that is why they only used the 3 point crash bar for one year the insurance co did not like them

Wow. That is exactly what happened to my Beast years ago. I blaimed the highway pegs, but they may have pierced the case covers anyway.

I have the 2-pointers on my G. At this time, I will only assume they will perform as needed, kinda like the Snell rating on my helmet. As far as the hoop style, I think they look pretty crappy. They did save the bro-in laws wifes HD when she laid it down, for the THIRD time.

Between those driveways that jump up and grab him, and the driveways that pull his bike down to their level, I can see where he is tired of replacing parts by now.

I too have crash bars as Fredintoon but have road tested then a couple of times - the result is that they are basically now solid from repairs (result of scraping down the road at speed and wearing thru the pipe - they too folded back against the covers with little damage to the covers (except that flat spot at the bottom of the cover)
