  • Mysterious Black fluid coming out Pipes

Well after thinking we had a dead cylinder on my boss Bobs bike, we put new plugs, wires, coils, and new carbs..... still doing the same. It Smokes and a real thick black fluid comes out of the pipes. Havent done a compression check on it but just need some Ideas from others on what it could be.

Well, the only black fluid on these things is used oil. Have you looked at the plugs to see if they are getting oiled? A compression/leak down test might be in order.

From personal experience... I pray for you that it's not oil. Wow what a nightmare I've had with that.

If you're lucky, it's condensation dissolving the soot in the pipes. If you're not lucky, well, that's been covered above.

Get some of the liquid on a finger and see if it's slippery like oil. Can't think of a better test than that.

          Sooty Stuff

I've seen this happen when running a fan to keep engine from overheating during carb tuning.Remember you're in the deep south as well and humidity is baaaaad!! I wish you luck.

Run the compression check. That will tell you ALOT of things. Remember to open the throttle all the way up when you run the check!! IF a cylnder is low, add a bit of oil (two teaspoons) through the plug hole and try again, if the number goes up its rings. If one is basically no compression, well maybe you got Varnaed!

If you are not getting the engine warm and repeatedly running it briefly, you will get black water out the pipes, mine tends to run out the crossover.

If it is oily, well oil it is. Then, well, Hope for water.
