  • Drag bar cable length...

I'm getting ready to order from motionpro, but I'm leary of getting a cable that's too short or too long. Anyone with drag bars know their measurment? I'm guessing it's in the 29" range for the throttle. Can I take the same 14" off from the clutch cable?

I used the stock cable for mine. it could probably be a few inches shorter but it is not WAYYYYY to long, hardly noticable really.

Mine does have a 1 to 1 1/2 in riser on them. Dont know if you do or not, but would suggest it with a drag bar

          Hi Josh,
a few inches too long can be coped with. As little as an inch too short is a bitch.
Set up the bars as you want them. Check if you can turn them lock to lock when mounted direct or if you need risers.
Use the regular cables in place at the carbs and clutch and taped to the levers where you think they aught to be and try them lock to lock to see by how much the new cables need to be shorter.

I went out and remeasured. Maybe I'd have a better end result if I only went 6 3/4" shorter than stock on the throttle. Everyone think I'll be ok taking 6 3/4" from the clutch side as well? Is that a good theory?

              Hi Josh,
yeah, but it's only a theory. That bike is older than you are, God knows what length of cables it's various POs may have put on it. The only safe way is to tape the existing cables in place on the lever and twistgrip where they look right on your new bars and don't think "I should take X & Y inches off them" but measure the cables from their far ends to the levers and think "The new clutch cable should be XX inches long and the new throttle cable should be YY inches long".

How'd you get that to work out? Can you take some closer pics? Because I thought about a riser since I'm so close to the air valves on the forks. There's probably 3/16" between the bars and air caps.

Fred, I think taping will work easily with the clutch side. I'm going to have that upward bend at the twist grip for the throttle. I think I can just use a little imagination and flex it where I think it needs to be. I think I'll be safe with the 6 3/4" if too long is ok, because I have about an extra 12" right now.
