I have an 81 XS1100H with the original fairing and saddlebags. the windscreen needs replacing but nobody sells one for this model. When sitting on the bike it looks just like a Vetter Windjammer fairing. the (windscreen) mounting hardware looks the same. is it a vetter windscreen?

It may be a vetter. Vetter sells those windshields directly from his website, or they are available on ebay from several sources. If you post a picture of the fairing, it will be really easy to determine whether it's a vetter or not. Does it look anything like mine? Yours probably has the square headlight though, right?

I had it parked beside a vetter last summer and they looked the same from the back. same pocket covers and windscreen mounting. That bike is 300 miles away now and I have no way to compare. I know it's a windjammer knockoff but there is a no-return policy on craig vetter's site and he won't answer my e-mails. I don't want to make a $150 mistake.

If it has the Yamaha tag near the wire connection on the left side, it's a Vetter. ALL the OEM Yamaha fairings from 1980 up are Vetter designs. The 1978 was a Pacifico, and used a different windshield. The 1979 was a "mix", and you need to look at the windshield. The Vetters have an arc on the front lower part of the shield, early Pacifico has a flat section on the lower front.Ray Matteis

I knew of this site but never came and asked. I have been trying to answer this for a month now online by asking windscreen sellers if it will fit my bike. not one of them even replied to my msg.
I plan to ask all my questions here first from now on. thx

If you have the OEM Vetter/Yamaha fairing, you can buy any Windjammer series shield and it will fit. I cut my own from a +/- $30 piece of 3/8 acrylic plastic. Not a hard job at all and it allows me to use "tinted" plastic and cut the height where I like it.When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger
