  • Another gas tank question

What's the best way to seal up the holes in the tank (fuel sender, petcocks) when prepping it for cleaning?

I used an old inner tube to make rubber gaskets (very crude) and electrical plates with holes drilled in the appropriate places. Worked great. When I coated the tank I just used duct tape.
Good luck to you. Be gentle with the process.

When I covered the holes I used some 1/4" plexiglass scrap and pieces of an old truck tube for a gaskets.

Turn the sending unit so that the float is on the outside and use innertube as a gasket. You can use a piece of flatstock and drill holes for the bolts for each of the petcock holes.
