  • which grade oil? 'first' oil change

hey guys just picked up an oil filter from car quest it says 89933 on the box, hopefully this is correct. Which grade oil should I be putting in? The manual says 10 30 or 20 40, i'm thinking 20w40 should be good? I'll need 3.5litres right?

20w40 should be ok in the heat of summer, but as it gets cooler, you may want to drop to a slightly thinner viscosity. However, since you probably won't be riding in the winter up there in the arctic, you may not have to worry about it.

Make sure you change the middle and rear drive oils as well, if you have not already done so. Those both take 90w synthetic gear oil.

I used to use the 10-30 all the time here in sunny Alberta but this year have gone to the 20-50 and am pleased with the results. less noise etc. I would not use it in fall or spring around here though as the temps are a bit colder then.

just switched to rotella 15w-40 and it seems great so far... a guy in fla said he only uses lucas in his ninja??? never tried it though. i used to sell amsoil and the tests on it are incredible compared to other oils. you can research it on the net. also read about the ballbearing test they do with oil. it's pretty interesting.
