H4 Bi-Xenon HID Kit

Derwat has the one with the halogen bulb and one HID bulb.

As near as I can tell, it is a 'low-beam' only model, and in it's instructions, it calls the halogen bulb a 'Daytime Driving Light'.

With his, he has pretty good low beam, but the high beam sucks.

Nothing like my telescoping hi/lo unit.

The bulb plugs into a housing that replaces the sealed beam, where do you get the housing? Is it included or do you have to get separately?

The HID does not work with a sealed beam lamp. I needs the Reflector that uses a H4 Halogen lamp. EBay or Andreas is the best bet to find a reflector.

The '79 SHOULD have a H4 unit in it. The '78 was a sealed beam, but in '79 Yamaha went to the H4 headlight unit. They ARE available, just need to look. Ebay may have one, or you can ask andreas.

I have a round sealed beam in my fairing. That's why I was asking. So I need a H4 reflector off a 79 Special? Is that right? Will that fit my Vetter. Or is that another can of worms?

What he means by 'reflector' is just a normal H4 7" round headlight with removable bulb. It fits right in the stock location. It will fit your Vetter no problem, as the Vetter was designed to use the stock headlight.

I have the Yamaha Vetter fairing with the rectangular H4. I had to drill a small hole in the back of the fairing, behind the headlight to allow enough space for the solonoid to move.

Hey Bandit,

Look at MIkesXS.net, and look for the Clear Lens conversion kits for the 7" round headlights, or you can also get similar from other sources, like JCW, and probably Ebay as well. As said any 7" round headlight housing will fit in the fairing's round headlight holder.

Ooh! How absolutely phallic. Seriously though, how easy is it to install that big ol' solenoid into the rat's nest of wires & connectors inside the headlight shell?
I gotta squeeze my rim in to get the holding screws aligned with an ordinary bulb in there.

Okay.. WTF?? Looked on ebay, and the Diane store has like 42,000 listings for HID Bi Xenon lights. searched for the model number posted, and didnt find it.

The items i DID find, were DUAL setups. What does a single bulb, ballast, wiring run?

I may pop for the dual (2 bikes) but cant right now.... Wallet trauma.... after the holidays or tax time, but just curious right now...

What I showed earlier.. the NON Bi-xenon lights and the ones you are talking about with a dual system are a single beam light.. meaning no hi/low beam.. just a single setting. That "Bi" differential means that it's able to go between high and low beam in a couple different ways as TC showed.

I too have tried to research the HID system with the telescoping filament with no luck. I have a conversion kit that utilizes a halogen bulb for the low beam and HID for the High beam and as already mentioned the High beam should be much brighter. Any further help or references on the telescoping bulb would be appreciated.
