and that's precisely why I began to itch: I have bad memories of working on honda and bye bye threads

plus I am pissed at autozone for not honoring their "life warranty" shocks I got for the van, kragen and a torque wrench then, and up side down it goes

      Auto Zone

greg max go to Auto Zone and talk to the manager of the store about the warranty on your shocks. If he will not help you tell him you want the name and phone number of the district manager, get the names of the people you talked to in the store and tell him how they give you the run around. If he will not help you ask for the name and phone number of the regional manager. I will bet you get your shocks replaced by the store manager.
      Thanks Tom

Unless I am mistaken, the one place that a torque is needed is when re-installing the clutch. Not only that bit I think it was something like 7 inch lbs of torque. I picked up a 1/4 inch drive small torque wrench at harbour freight pretty cheap. I don't think that is a part I would want to estimate when installing. Also, the grinding should not take all that long. With a cut-off wheel to do the dogs, I think I had it done in around 15 minutes the last time I did it.

it keeps getting better, 15mn who says faster?

thanks every one for the lowdown

as for autozone, I talked to the district manager after a few days (van stranded in the meantime) and "the shocks are under lifetime warranty now, but when you bought them they were under 2 years warranty...". Doesn't make sense since I bought them for that precise lifetime warranty. All maintenance on the chevy was autozone, they lost my business.

If you go to Kragens, get "The Right Stuff" for gasket material! It's not cheap, about $15 for a can that will do the bike 1.5 times, but it works. I've been using it on the valve covers of the bikes I work on, and do NOT have any leaks. It's easy to use, as you only need one side oil free. I clean the cover, and apply it to that, let it set for about 15 minutes and install.

if I reuse the oil the gears just chipped into I am doing damage,

                  so

                  addendum:

3 liters of 20w50 (with a splash of lucas gear oil) ($10)
1 liter middle & end drive gear oil ($10)
