  • Converting to halogen headlight with Pacifico fairing

I would like to convert my current headlight (original sealed beam bulb) to a halogen bulb and I have a fairing (Yamaha fairing made by Pacifico for 78 XS11). The current bulb fits in the fairing housing and is held in place by a chrome trim ring. Is it just a matter of buying the halogen housing (like from Mike's XS) and seeing if that fits inside the fairing? Do you need to cut away the housing that's now in the fairing to accomodate the halogen setup? I am really nervous about cutting into the fairing, it's in great shape and I would hate to hack it up. Has anybody done this with this fairing? Can you even buy replacements for the old sealed beam bulbs? As always, thanks for the advice.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can get you an XS11 and that's a start.

Did this on my Windjammer II.
Physically, all I needed to do was punch a hole through the backside because the H4 type reflector housing is longer than the sealed beam. It may fit your fairing just fine. The three tab locator will accomodate the new reflector with no modification with the same ring holding it in.

    Cue Craz hawking the HID..............

DO NOT do this!!! Just try to fine the "newer" lamp from a '79 or up bike. It's made for the H4 bulb, and is a direct replacement. If you CANNOT find one, you CAN buy a rectangular H4 bulb, and cut the two mount flanges off the sealed beam and epoxy them to the new bulb.

I had to put a small hole through the back of my fairing for the HID too, for the hi/low solonoid travel.

I was sure there were direct replacement rectangular bulbs which would do what he wants.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Have you tried one of the "silver star" bulbs from sylvania? If your just looking for more light I really like the silver star bulbs, just as bright as the H4's and sealed beam so no modifications required.....

My headlight had the adjusters built into it. I bought a plastic headlight of the same size that was made for autos, and fabbed some mounts to install it. Now I have the halogen light bulb.

First bike was an: 1978 XS1100
              Second bike is an FJR1300.
              Now I'm restoring a '79 XS1100.

Does anyone know what part numbers or who sells any lamps to fit into the Pacifico Fairing? I need to replace mine.

My 80 Pacifico (on a SG) has a round headlight. I put a HID with solenoid in it with no clearance problems behind.
