so i just bought a harbor freight ultrasonic cleaner . took my carbs all apart , put everything in the ultrasonic cleaner with hot water and a hearty pour of simple green except for the floats and slides . i set it to 480 which i guess is the highest setting it will do and i'm 3 cycles in now . so far i'm not amazed , am i doing something wrong ? does it just take like 10 cycles ? is my mix not strong enough ?

T - Did you buy the 2.5 liter cleaner? Is it big enough to accomodate the carbs on the rack? My carbs are clean, but that looks like a handy little gizmo to have around.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

it takes a little longer than i thought it would , but i sure do like just starting the machine and then coming back to it later . looks like it works pretty well to me . (pic taken after i reinstalled everything on the carb , everything was removed for cleaning )

I bought a 6 litre model and it works great. I still soak the jets and emulsion tubes in carb cleaner. I also add a bit of dish soap with Simple Green and set the timer for 30 min and turn the carb over for anther 30 min . They always come out sparkling clean inside and out.
I found a guard from a portable light from work that fits perfect in my cleaner and found parts came out cleaner .When I the small mesh baskets it took longer to clean .BDF Special

Harbor Freight RULES
Seems the cleaner is back on sale. Picked one up on the 1st after printing the ad and taking it with to the store!! To bad it is freezing butt cold in the garage. Otherwise I would let you all know how well it works, or if it works at all.

I watched the mechanic at the local bike shop clean a full set of carbs off a Valkyrie last week using an ultra sonic machine and it only took about 45 min. and that was for both sides, 3 carbs at a time, he didn't even have to separate them, he just dipped one side then the other. They came out like new. Their machine used a special solution provided with the machine.Fastmover

An $80 USC is NOT going to do as good a job as a more expensive commercial model. It doesn't have the power and I would be willing to bet it's transducer isn't operating at nearly as high a frequency.
But, given more time (which, as do-it-yourselfers we SHOULD be able to come up with) it will get the job done. And you can't touch a commercial unit for this kind of money.-- Clint
