Hi there,
Purchased a 1981 XS1100R yesterday, (BLACK) VIN number is 5N5000242, I'm led to believe there were about 900 of these made, don't know if that was a selling point, the guy I bought it off said the exhausts were after not original, but they have on them Yamaha 5K7-14721 inprinted on the right hand exhaust and 5K7-14711 on the left.
The bike shows 33,475Kms, but it has been sitting around for ages, I have removed the left hand side cover and will assume that the compartment is for tools, the battery was missing, so it looks like the battery clamp is not ther either. On the right side of the bike, above the footpeg is a compartment??? Don't know what should be there? The bike is complete, besides a cracked front right hand blinker, flat tyres and no feel on the brakes, the bike had not been started for over 8 months, put in some fuel and it started, although the cam chain sounded rather cranky (Rattely). My first mistake, I got the bike home, and it was covered in pine needles and sap, I polished the tank and it came up looking pretty good I must say, the mistake, I should have got a photo of it first, with the cobb webs etc.
Looking forward to getting valuable info from this site.
Cheers for now, when I work out how to send pictures, I'll send one.
Lou
