well I spent a good 3 or 4 hours lastnight trying to remove a broken pilot screw tip from carb #4 , tried the sewing needles , tried the push pin trick , even tried making my own tools . none of it was working , this thing was in there good . so I tried something else , I stuck the rack of carbs in the freezer for a few hours , as soon as I took them out I tried the push pin trick again and the tip popped out right away with almost no resistance .freezing the carbs shrinks the tips just enough that you can easily knock them out , just passing it on incase anyone else comes across a stubborn one .

Great idea! Works the same way for candle holders too - put the little cups in the freezer for a bit, and the wax lets go with just a tap.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Dry ice could work , the grocery stores around here don't sell it anymore . if I remember right the carbs were only in the freezer for 3 or 4 hours , just enough to get frosty like a beer mug . I wish i'd tried the freezer before I spent 4 hours screaming at the carbs while wielding sewing needles and pliars ha ha .Last edited by TDodge7; 06-12-2009, 11:04 AM.

Russ79 called me this morning asking what size drill bit would it take to drill out the pilot screws.. apparently all 4 broke off in the carbs he was working on. I told him about this freezer thing I'd read on the forum and he tried it. All four tips popped right out.
I was also thinking.. that can of compressed air you use on your computer.. if you held it upside down and sprayed the liquid that comes out straight onto that jet.. that would freeze the area in a hurry also.

Freeze out
Hi, There is a product called freeze out available at hardware stores in a spray can. That should work also. I bought a can then discovered that my tips werent actually broke off, just advanced too far,, perhaps by the factory. I found that the mix screws only had one quarter turn out from seated, not the one and a quarter that is supposed. Of course, these screws could potentially have vibrated their way towards being seated.80 MNS , Georgefix pods , crossed fuel lines, no octy, inline filters, Daytona handlebar, custom seat, Hardley 19 muffs
