Yikes! Me starter button broke off!

- - - When it happened to me, i made a new on on the lathe. pretty easy.

Hi Ivan,
no lathe, back then no internet, lived out in the country and it was Sunday.
Shoved a red plastic handled stubby screwdiver in my 3/8" drill, clamped the drill in the vise, turned it on and shaped the end of the stubby's handle into a new button with a file. You gotta do what you gotta do. That was 23 years ago and that button still starts my XS650.

Mine just broke off too

Mine just broke off too. I still have the spring. I see they still sell them on the partsnmore site, but I don't have $35 worth of stuff to buy. Anyone still have an extra one? I am also going to look to see if I can find one on Ebay.

No Luck on Ebay

Checked Ebay, no luck there. Good thing, for the time being at least, is that I still have the old button and have it taped in place. Just wondering how long scotch tape will hold up in 80+MPH winds.

Went to order it from Mike's, Shipping is $7 for a $6 part that is super tiny! I will hold of on ordering it for few days and maybe I can find one somewhere in town or perhaps make my own somehow. If anyone has an extra lying around that they don't want, please let me know.

try to find ANY bike parts in town. Yamaha round starter and horn buttons are ALL the same, so almost ANY Yamaha part will work.

I made one out of aluminum on a lathe. The horn and starter button are interchangeable, so you can get some measurements of the other one if you have a lathe to make one. Mine has worked well for as long as I have owned the scoot.

If I were at work, I would have made one and sent it to you, but I am still laid up after the accident, so I guess you're stuck with $7 shipping. Sorry.

Thanks Ivan. I don't have a lathe, but I am sure I will be able to find one somewhere in my city. I will look around for a few more days.
