  • a sad day and a tear shed.....

so last night I was on my way down 540 headed toward Ft. Smith from Fayetteville when my bike started to make a knock, lost power and the motor locked up......After waiting for 2 and a half hours for my friend to get my truck and come and pick me up(i was 30 minutes away) i got the bike back home.....i believe i am going to have to rebuild the bottom end.

Or maybe not. When did you last check the fluid level in the middle drive?

Dang! And that thing was sounding so good this last weekend..

Sorry to hear it. As stated.. make sure it isn't the middle drive... but the bad news... is if something was so bad in the bottom end to lock it up, chances are good that the bottom end is junk. If it was still rolling.. it wasn't the middle or final drives.

I would think if it rolled when you had the clutch pulled in, it would relegate it to engine issue, correct?

it does roll when i pull the clutch in, that is why i am pretty certain that it is the bottom end.

After it has cooled does it turn over? I have known a few car engines that locked up but turned over when cooled off. Although it usually spells the beginning of the end.

I am going to try to turn it over, but i am about 98.735% sure that it is locked up just because of the noise i heard just before it did lock up

sorry about your bike, but remember nothing really is that bad as long as you make it home in one piece! everything else can be fixed

this is true, I thought about that for a bit as I was on the side of the road waiting.

IF it was locked up, and is free now, it still is most likely only a matter of time anyway really. But it may lean toward a more rebuildable engine if it turns now.

Ouch! That pretty much counts out the middle drive. Maybe you'll get lucky and find it's only the hyvo chain...

                          That's bad

At least you still have your health? <g,d&r>

I'd send you some spare engine parts but the ones I have are close to the same condition as yours.

                          Regards,

                            schrapnal

Go the motor out and torn apart......just a couple of minor problems

                            1. shattered the number 2 piston skirt
                            2. connecting rod is shapped like a boomarang
                            3. upper and lower cases have new passage ways between the crank case and trans housing
                            4. the crankshaft jurnal on number 2 looks like the terminator got a hold of it.

i've got some pics i will get up soon.
