    Hey Bubba,
    Welcome to te forum,
    Im assuming you have an early model xs, 78-79,

    sounds like the ballast resistor is causing your problems.

    This is situated under the tank on the left side frame rail
    its a little steet looking thing with a cpl of wires attached, i think from memory red/white?
    disconnect the wires and join them together to by-pass
    the ballast resistor, then start the engine, all good the resistor needs replacing, if this doesnt fix your problem then theres another issue.

        no i started another thread with more information and a clearer explanation, i will test the resistor, i was getting a 2.2 milli ohms, i think
