  • Dial-A-Jet setup question

For those who may have some experience with Dial-A-Jet systems on their bikes or snow machines perhaps you can tell me what you think. Dial-A-jet does not recommend using the system without an air box. I am not sure if this is due to the amount of air that would be flowing past the input nozzles or because the air flow MUST pass the input nozzle tips at 90 degrees to the tips. There’s also not enough room between the PODs and the carbs to mount the control devices.
So, I am planning on mounting the control devices on the back of the PODs and will add a curved tube to the end of each nozzle so air still passes their tips at 90 degrees. I plan to ether JB wield the additional tubes on or if the small parts can be found thread them on to the inside exposed threads of the original nozzles. I can place the control devices in a manner that will ether have the nozzle tips up or down. In the normal setup they can be placed in any configuration. The actual placement of the nozzle tips will be in the same location in the carb throat as would be the case in a normal setup.
Does anyone see any problem with this plan?

    My only question is WHY!!!!
It seems to me you are trying to make life a LOT harder than it needs to be. Once you have the carbs jetted, you are DONE. You don't need to adjust anything. If you are running to 6,000' and then back down to 1,000' all the time, then MAYBE.
If it's just to try and make the jetting easier, or get better mileage, I don't think it's the proper way to go. JMHO

I am adding it to this bike because Dial-A-Jet is a proven performance enhancer that fills in the spots where jetting is not quite right. I helps correct stumbles, improves drivable and of course is adjustable without carb removal / re-jetting. I used this system on this same kitted engine 2 seasons ago but that bike had an air box. This one does not.

i have seen them and read up on them and they looked interesting but i don;t know much about how they would work... the theory behind it seems sound though??? it may help these old style carbs be smoother... but as far as pod use i have no idea. when i owned the 86 radian i wanted to use them and i wrote to the tech guy, he said they wouldn't work i think because if i remember right the radian didn't have the air jets in the throat.??? there are alot of naysayers out there though...???

The fuel is drawn through the flow control device from the bottom of the float bowls and then added just inside the intake mouth of the carb before the butterflies. The more air that passes over the open top of the nozzles the more fuel that gets added within the limits set by the flow control device. It's the same as blowing across the top of a straw. The fluid is drawn up the straw by the negative pressure that is created by that moving air.The units can add up to 15% more fuel if / when needed.
There's always naysayers to just about anything that can be done to a car, bike snow machine etc and in some cases they are correct. However thunder products has proven that their dial-A-jet system works.
