First off thanks to Dan and Doug for the help the other day. Brakes and electrics are a go!

Now It fired over once with a high idle and now won't start. Since I let it sit like a moran with the carbs full all winter I figured They are probably as now gunned as the brakes were. After a full day with my intakes and a can of plasti-dip I am now ready to sink into the carbs...AGAIN.

P.s. Doug you weren't kidding about how many coats are in a can...And yes... yours are still prettier.. a&&hole...lol

I still have the origional airbox for this bike. while I have it pulled apart should I plan on reusing the airbox?? or stop after the carbs are clean while I am ahead and rejet? Dan and Doug may be able to venture a better opinion since they have seen the bike. But still interested in what the popular opinion was.

Not sure where I am going with the exhaust yet so that will be another factor down the road.

Your pictures are about 1" square! (on a 1280x1024 screen)

I am a fan of the stock airbox, K&N combo. It does the job in any kind of weather, keeps water out of the carbs, and is quiet.

It also doesn't leave the big gaping hole beind the engine, making it look like a 60s twin, and adds a bit of chrome.

In the old days, the pod filters were a sign you ran over the stock box with the car, and were too cheap to buy a new one.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Personally I think the stock airbox flows better.Or at least is easier to use.I tried pods but it didnt give me a consistant smooth operation at all rpms.
They also make my bike look like something is missing.
They do give the bike a throaty sound thats kind of cool though.

I'm making the first vote for pods, mostly because that's all I've ever had. I like the convenience you get when it comes to pulling the carbs.

I voted for PODs and that's a good way to go so long as you are prepared top take the time necessary to tune the carbs properly for the best all round use outcome.

I talked to a neighbor today who has a chopped honda 1000 with pods, he said anytime it even sprinkles rain it sucks water into the carbs and he's done. I was going to go with pods myself until I talked to him. Now i'm just going to go with drilling the airbox.

                      Hey Dick,

If you'll do a search about Pod Filters and Rain, you'll find several posts from folks who have NOT had any trouble with Rain and their Pod filters!!

Sounds more like he might have electrical issues that are getting messed up with the rain moreso than actual water logging the intakes!?

I started out with pods as when I purchased il barrachino, it did not have carbs, much less an airbox. I would have occasional issues in the rain, but have since decided that it was the plug wires shorting to body and frame parts that was making it run poorly. I have since put a stock airbox on it, 20 bucks mas o menos on the bay. I put it on to get somewhat closer to stock settings as to get it tuned better (no real complaints with how it ran before, just wanted it better) I am of the mind that the pods won't hurt anything and probably wont drown the bike if caught in the rain (mine didn't) but I have chosen to put on an airbox, so I guess I'll vote stock airbox. have a nice day and ride safe

                          Gary,

I vote pods for you. There are several others here that run pods with no issues at all. You are going for more of a thinned down or minimal look to the bike from what I can see, so that is why I think the pods go better with your design. They seem to let the bike breath easier to and since you are looking at the 4-1 exhaust, your gonna be tuning carbs anyway. JMHO

I's have to say just based on the apparent look you seem to be going for that pods fit better with the look, even though I rather like the look of the stock airbox.

My 78 is modded w/ pods and 4/1 and it runs pretty good but I think I want velocity stacks,no problems in the rain. The 79f is all stock and is much faster and it will stay as close to stock as I can keep it with what parts are available
