so im tuning my 78e and it seems to bog a little bit from about 1100 rpm to maybe just under 2k if you know what I have been up to on this bike than you already know I have 85 fj1100 carbs , mikes xs pods and bassani superbike 4/1, do you think its the lack of advance , no velocity stacks or what ?? power comes on at 2k and doesnt stop pullin until I get chicken. will it work if attach the vacuum advance to the second carb boot with an inline restrictor??

Wow... That's a lot of change to take into consideration. I know nothing about the other parts, so I can only say that if you were still running the stock setup, I would look at the pilot jets/circuit. Sounds like it's not getting enough fuel till the main jets kick in at the higher RPMs.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Garth, I know what you mean. Has the bike been bogging since you put on the new carbs back, when, around the time we made the casino run or is it more recent?

maybe
Well I have tuned them it a bit more and it is probably just a little bit more tuning needed, also I am really thinking of velocity stacks and I think part of it is the f/d mod and the taller gears91 kwaka kz1000p

Garth,
Im running the air stacks with uni pod filters,
makes a nice difference up top but wont make any difference to your off idle stumble, play around with the mixtures a bit more, you could also try stretching the slide springs a quarter inch to slow the slide down a whisker.
I also dont think the advance would contribute to it either.pete

Garth,
It sounds as if you're experiencing the same thing I was on my XJ. Here's the thread of how I solved it:

Garth - soft and boggy on the bottom is often a sign of float height being too high (in their installed orientation). Don't know a lot about the FJ carbs, but this is common for CV carbs. Might try lowering them 1-2mm - doesn't cost anything. Also, I've found a colortune an indispensible tool in determining jetting. If you can't adjust through the entire range of color (yellow, bunson blue, white blue) it's generally an indication that the jets aren't right. Here's some useful info DGXSER just turned me on to - CV Carb TuningLast edited by dbeardslee; 04-30-2009, 09:30 AM.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

mix
I think I am almost there with the pilot mix just need to do a couple of chops and see where I stand , put in a tankful of gas and added some seafoam havent done that in like six months so I figured I was due and she seems to run pretty good but maybe I am a perfectionist (haha) also I think with pods 4/1 and the 750 mod it doesnt pull as hard from down low as a stocker91 kwaka kz1000p
