Wow ! nice !, really ripping into it, this is going to be one fast rebuild

Here's the frame wiring for an SF

Remember with the coils that the lefthand coil fires outside cylinders (1 & 4), It's got longer HT leads and Orange and Red/White wires.

          Update!

I got the head back on tuesday and painted a bunch of stuff AND finally cleaned up the garage a bit. (couldnt find any tools)

Here are some pics of the head and ETC.

QUESTION> should i take the final drive apart and inspect since its set for 24 years??
im still cleaning it up but its pretty dirty.

          Thanks

You know while you have it torn down to this stage you ought to try to get one of the 79 and up xs 750 final drives listed on Ebay. Would be a nice additon. It is looking good.

In a word, NO!! It is like the rear end on a rear drive car. It takes special tools to put back together correctly. Just drain the old oil, put a little seafoam in, shake it around and drain the seafoam. Let it set with the fill and drain plugs out for an hour or so, put in the drain plug and fill with SYNTHETIC 80W90 gear oil. You should be ready to ride after that.
I DO agree with the 750 mod, if you can find one cheap. It WILL help with the overall mileage, and keeps the RPMs down on the highway.

I am getting ready for reassembly myself and have a lot of pics I hope some will help. I am not too bad mechanically but memory-wise I frustrate myself a lot so hopefully I over did it. Good luck. and please tell me how you post pics to your posts??? I am not getting it...

If you roll the mouse over one of the pictures in your album, you will see a box with some options pop up. Copy the IMG "tag", and put it in the post here:

                  That should show your picture.

Here are some picks of the coils I took during disassembly. Hopefully one day there will be a reassembly The direct link to the pics is:

I guess that you don't need the direct link since DiverRay pointed out that you can resize the picks by clicking on them

Got a chuckle when I read "I am not gonna do much highway riding".
