  • Replacement air filter

What brand of air filter for the stock air box are you guys running?

I have tried the one from partsnmore and an emgo air filter I bought off ebay. Both are too tall for my air box and causes a gap in the seal no matter how hard I tighten the screws. I don't see how it could be a problem with my air box but has anyone else problems with the partnsmore and emgo filters?

I'm assuming that if I switch to a K&N or Uni I will have to change my jets which I really don't want to do at this point. Am I stuck buying an expensive Yamaha brand filter?

    Thanks!

Boss - I was running a foam replacement filter from JCWhitney that worked fine. It was oilable, washable and fit well. Here's a link - http://www.jcwhitney.com/REUSABLE-FO...4687_10111.jcw It did not look like the one in the picture. It was yellow foam, and the foam is completely removeable from the frame. Shouldn't cause problems with your jetting.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I got a partsnmore filter and had the same problem. Scraped off the foam on the outside edge and it fit good. Still using it.

I've been using KN air filters for quite a few years tho' I've got a couple of JCWhitney filters in a box somewhere. The KN's are great but you NEVER want to use HOT water when cleaning them since they'll shrink just enough not to fit. After I discovered this I haven't had a problem with them.

Now if I could figure out how to keep the mice from nesting in my air boxes I'd be happy. Last year I jammed some steel wool in the intake which kept them out but of course I forgot about it when I tried to start 'em in the spring. Guess I need some "Remove Before Flight" ribbons.

I'm also using a K&N in the stock air box. No problems.

Off topic, sorry...My uncle uses mothballs on the grain truck motors on his farm to keep mice from making a home under the hood. Don't blame me though when you start it, and think you're losing your marbles.
