  • MikesXS coil upgrade

I'm in the process of upgrading the coils/wires/caps, and just wanted to verify my thinking. I picked up a set of the coils per the tech tips, the yellow 7mm wires that MilesXS sells, and a set of LB05EP caps. I've noticed that the new coils have a + and -, and the old coils don't. Studying the wiring diagram leads me to believe that the r/w wires are the ground (-) since they tie together, and the Orange and Grey wires are the hots (+) respectivly.

Am I correct in my thinking, or is this the second comming of Chernobyl?

    Thanks
    Ray

You have it backwards. Red/wht is pos (+) giving the coils juice, and the org/gry go to neg (-). Org/gry are the trigger wires.

      Thank you Phil!

Gotta love all the knowledge and wisdom on the forum I was about to make nasty things happen to my electrical system

Hey did your boxes have a sticker on the end that told the part number along with cb/650/750/900 and made in Taiwan ? Makes me wonder if these are standard replacements for honda ?

Silent! I tried to smash that bug running around on the screen. We have a house plant that hatches those damn gnats...

Heh I try and smash that bug on occasion too

I musta messed something up when I soldered the wires to the new coils. I've got weak spark on one bank, and no spark on the other. I did bypass the resistor under the tank.

After reinstalling the carb rack, pulling the new coils and tossing in the old ones with a new cap, she fired up on all 4! Apperenlty when I soldered the wires onto the new coils I got one of the terminals to hot and must have damaged the coil internaly. I do know I did have problems with one coil trying to get the solder cleared out of the hole. The battery was down a bit, so thats probably why the weak spaark on the first coil.

Now to figure out the air/fuel mixture and get her running the way she should
