  • Carb diaphram removal

Start by cutting the top ring with a very sharp knife,
place a screwdriver in the cut and carefuly pry the top ring off. To replace, i sprayed the diahpram with some silicon spray and carefully put the upper ring back on, the lower ring has a recess and the bottom of the diaphram must sit in this recess to seal properly, carefully pull on the diaphram till you feel the diaphram seat in the lower ring recess.

Because the diaphram is a pressed fit youll need to tap the upper ring lightly for a secure fit being careful not to damage the diaphram.

    all done. :-)

Pete, I'm not quite clear on the cutting of the top ring. Do you reuse the ring that you cut?

          Reusing top ring

Ok, I looked closer and I see what was done now. The cut doesn't affect the ability of the ring to lock the diaphragm in place, correct?

            hi tim,

yep thats correct, u can reuse the top ring, i never glued
the base or the ring imo it wasnt needed and the diaphram
            is secure.
if u do cut the top ring and plan on using the diaphram below it,
just be real careful as it isnt to hard to cut the diaphram with the knife,
if ur replacing the diaphram then this wouldnt matter.

one other thing that i didnt make a note of at the time
is making sure the hole in the slide is pointing to the front of the carbs
when the "tab" for a better word of the diaphram is seated in its spot.
in the above pics i havent done that, but have since.

Well now that I know how easy it is,maybe I should put my spares up for sale. Maybe I can help someone out there that needs a set. They are getting hard to find.

                        hi ras,
i saw that when i bought my diaphrams a while back,
i tried it that way using
the old diaphram to remove it, i didnt like it.
                        cutting the top ring was
a much better and safer way of doing it without the worry
                        of ruining the new diaphram.

I was just trying to show that there are a few different ways of doing it. Many have preferences of one way over another. I have never tried it yet but have some to be doing so I am looking around for my best option. I forget where I got the pic I posted in the other thread but it was from a supplier and it showed the way they recommended doing it. Just the pic and no instructions. So if you or anyone else has had experience, I am listening

it wasnt a very good method compared to cutting the
                            top ring.
