'80 XS1100 Carb Q's

I've got a few questions that hopefully y'all can answer!

I picked up a project '80 XS1100 with a Wiseco 1179 kit. The carbs were off the bike, but appeared to be correct for the bike. However, when trying to put them on, the spacing between the outer and inner cylinders appears to be off. What I mean is that if I line up say 1 & 2, I've got to shove the carbs over around 1/2" to the left to get 3 & 4 installed. Not the easiest thing to do!

2nd issue is that I've only got one fuel inlet on the carbs, right between 2 & 3. Everywhere in my manual it shows the inlets between 1&2 and 3&4. The tank has two petcocks, and I have no clue how to route them, other than teeing the two lines together and dropping them into the single inlet.

OK, do I have the wrong carbs for this bike, or am I missing something? The bike does run, and visually the carbs appear to be the correct type (i.e. from a Yamaha, CV type).

Not anything I have seen on an XS. Sounds like you got the wrong rack set up for sure. Might be the right bodies. The fuel inlets are actually open to both sides, just one side gets plugged when they put them in the racks I guess. and may be mounted on a rack with different spacings. Every model of XS1100 I have read about or seen has had two fuel inlet Tees, between 1 & 2 and another between 3 & 4. The older models had vents in the same locations but higher up on the carbs. The fit up you mention would seem to me either someone put the wrong carb boots on or another symptom of the wrong carb rack.

If you post pics of the carbs, someone will probably know what they are from, and many will know if they are the right ones for the XS11.

If you have only one fuel tube, between 2 & 3 it is not from a xs11. And that is probably why they don't line up w/ the boots. The bodies may appear similar from other models.

Here are a couple of pictures of the bike and the carbs. I'm almost sure they're not XS1100 carbs, but have no idea what they're from. So...I'm in need of some carbs for the bike. Anyone have anything cheap?

Definately NOT xs11 carbs. No boss for choke lever plate. The 4 holes in bell are wrong dia. Nipple on engine side, xs11 doesn't have. I have no idea what they came off of.

I'd have to agree with red bandit, they inlet side looks identical to my 81 carbs, they seem to be Mikuni carbs. I would look into a couple options, one being to get a new set (read different set of used) carbs that are for the 11. There is a set on fleabay ending in about an hour.

Other option is to get the mounting rack hardware from an 11 or redrill perhaps what you have, to mount them at the correct spacing, and Tee you two fuel lines into one to feed this set. This will take some work as the spacing between the 11 carbs is pretty even all the way across so it will change your fuel connections between carbs. You get an 11 T to replace the middle one, but not sure about the solution for the other two connectors. There are several folks here that are running alternate carbs, but it will probably take some creative tuning to get them to run right.

Yeah, I would rather just get the correct carbs. The bike runs, although pretty lean, so I suspect the carbs are too small anyway.


Does anyone have any idea what they're from?

OK, the carbs are from a Kawasaki KZ1000, so if anyone needs some, I'll let them go pretty cheap!

I have a set of those same carbs on Rising Sun out in San Diego - they run fine just probably need a little adjusting on yours to eliminate the lean condition.

I recognized the idle speed adjusting screw in the center bottom of one pics and had an aha moment.

But of course if you can get the real carbs then you will be better off, but the bike will run fine with those.

I bought Ghost Rider with a set simular to these. Turns out they came off of a GS1100 Suzuki and I ended up selling them on Ebay.
